Prior to beginning my freelance writing business in 1994, I worked for 11 years as a writer/editor and publications manager for the following St. Louis organizations:

1991 – 1994 Mallinckrodt Medical, Inc.
Senior Communications Specialist, Communications Department

Editor of quarterly employee magazine distributed to 5,000 employees worldwide. Project manager for annual report responsible for developing report themes and coordinating production. Developed and managed various employee communications programs, including employee breakfasts hosted by executives, bulletin board communications and other special projects. Worked with outside public relations counsel on developing news releases and press statements. Wrote executive speeches, news releases, feature articles, brochures and other communications as needed. Supervised the work of a communications assistant and college interns.

1988 – 1990 Mercantile Bancorporation, Inc.
Communications Specialist, Public Relations Department

Served as writer/editor of employee newsletters for two banking departments. Wrote other special communications such as news releases and customer notices. As needed, researched, analyzed and recommended changes to internal and external written communications.

1985 – 1988 Saint Louis University Medical Center
Publications Coordinator, Community Relations Department

Writer/editor of three medical center publications: a 13-page bimonthly employee magazine, an eight-page bimonthly community newsletter and a quarterly tabloid describing progress on hospital construction. Responsible for all phases of publication production.

Responsible for writing, design and photography for monthly employee newsletter and bimonthly training newsletter. Assisted with organizing employee-related activities such as picnics, retirement parties and photography contests.
